Our amazing Year 6 students were presented their commemorative caps on Wednesday. It was my privledge to present the cap to each child and congratulate them on their final year at school. To a child they were polite, smiling and cheerful. These children are wonderful examples of the young people St Thomas the Apostle is working with parents to prepare to be great citizens.

The students focused and listened as I shared with them my view of them as adaptable, effective learners who have used this year as a springboard into becoming resilient young people.

I look forward to the reducing of restrictions allowing us to have some form of covid-safe graduation experience for our students. More information will come home to parents about our usual end of year events and practices as we learn more about restrictions and possibilities.

We had extra excitement this week with a small visitor who missed the bell time and found him/herself still on site when everyone else arrived for the day. This juvenile Copperhead snake was spotted by some sharp eyed students who did exactly the right thing. They showed us safe behaviour by moving away, finding a teacher and alerting of the potential risk. Staff then cordoned off where the snake was resting and a snake catcher was called. We were reassured to discover that this is a very peaceful type of snake and even though they are poisonous they have not been responsible for any human deaths. The snake has been released into a more appropriate environment.
