First Holy Communion
The St Thomas the Apostle Parish First Eucharist program kicked off last night with the Information Night for parents. Enrolment forms are soon to follow so that families of Year 5 students (catching up from last year) can begin their preparation for this essential step in their Catholic journey.
‘Holy Communion’ comes under many names, to express the various ways of approaching the sacrament. Our candidates will be undertaking preparation so they can come to better understand the special relationship they are building with Jesus. It is called ‘Communion’ because they are forming a closer union with Jesus. When Catholics receive the Body and Blood of our Lord, they are accepting the most pure and beautiful gift ever given. This is why it is also known as ‘Eucharist’ (Greek for ‘Thanksgiving’) because we are expressing our heartfelt gratitude for the ultimate sacrifice, freely given to us with love.
Many thanks for the parents who expressed their intent last night by jumping onto the Google Meet. If you had already expressed interest in First Communion for your Year 5 student and missed the information session, you will need to contact the Parish as soon as possible so that you don’t miss the program.
