Bethany Mass
Our last week of term saw the Bethany Community (Years 5&6) celebrate the Our Lady of Sorrows Mass. The themes we explore with Mary in this feast day are not necessarily happy and joyful. Sometimes we need to acknowledge the sad times in our lives and Mary certainly had some sad moments. Can you imagine how she felt when her son was nailed to a cross? But she knew that Jesus came to us with a purpose and stuck by her calling the whole way.
Socktober
The month of October is known as ‘Mission Month’ in the liturgical calendar. The question we can ask ourselves during this time is… “How can we be the hands and feet of Jesus, to follow out his mission?”
St Thomas the Apostle PS is registered to participate in ‘Socktober’. This is an annual event, run by Catholic Mission. This year, Socktober focuses on supporting the poor in Thailand. There are curriculum resources and engaging activities for the students to explore that help them understand why it is that we engage in charity work. The why is very important. Socktober culminates in a fun event that uses a home-made soccer ball, made of socks and plastic bags. We will be communicating more with you next term about the raising of money for the charity, and how our community can be involved.
Visit the Socktober website for more details.
