Principal's Message
Reminder
Last day of Term 3 - Friday 16th September
First day of Term 4 - Monday 3rd October
Dear parents
Well the term has ended with a rush. What joy it has brought our parents and students to have the opportunity for learning expos in the communities. The children have been very excited to share their learning, their learning space and to have their parents as part of the event.
Today the Foundation students are hosting many scientists who are demonstrating experiments. A few look like the experiments may have gone awry!
But what an important message that is for us. It is when things go wrong that we learn. It is in trying and failing that we determine a better or innovative approach to problem solving. Experimentation is all about proving your hypothesis wrong.
This is a key message for our children to hear. Making mistakes is never a bad thing. It is in making the mistake that the learning occurs. It is however important that we ensure they also understand that simply repeating a mistake without trying to find a better way is not OK.
Perhaps over the next few weeks look for opportunities to share with your children the mistakes that happen in your day to day life. How you look for better solutions, what goes through your mind when you are thinking about your past actions/decisions or behaviours. Often our children are unaware of the thinking and decision making processes and reflections that we are doing internally. When we make our thinking visible our children have an opportunity to see problem solving and reflective practice modelled.
We wish your children (and hopefully you too) a restful break and look forward to returning in early October for the final term of the year. This will be a very active term with many different events and experiences on offer.
Kind regards,
Kate
