Dear Parents,
We begin another little surprise in our lives - a short lockdown to help us support the efforts to once again contain COVID. Our prayers and thoughts are with those suffering from COVID overseas and here. We are so grateful to live in a country able to have such low infection rates.
Friday is now a school closure day.
Monday to Thursday will be remote learning.
Please read the email sent home to 'the spear' today for more details and link to the booking form if you are an authorised worker.
If you are worried about access to remote learning please email principal@cranbourneeast.catholic.edu.au to explain your device/access situation and we will work out a solution to support.
Congratulations to Mrs Jen Gulavin who has been formally appointed as Deputy Principal: Inclusive Education. We thank Jen for the work done so far in her acting role and look forward to her adding her own flair to the position.
Kate
Dear Families,
In last Sunday’s Gospel, we learn of Bartimaeus, a blind man, seeking comfort from Jesus.
As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, son of David, have pity on me.” Mark 10:46–47
Bartimaeus sets for us a wonderful example of how we should pray to the Lord. His blindness symbolises every weakness and need we may have in life. We all face struggles in our everyday experiences and need to find ways of listening to the voice of God within us to prompt us to take action.
Through our Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour work, we are using simple questions with our students to promote Safety, Respect and Learning when we face challenges and are required to act or seek support.
These questions are also implemented in the classroom when redirecting students to the required learning is needed. These questions may support and scaffold conversations you have with your children at home when they are faced with challenges and need guidance in the choices they make. We are constantly learning and we know for students taking risks is key to developing confidence with new learning opportunities.
Carol Dweck, an American psychologist, tells us that reminding students that they have mastered things they once got ‘wrong’, allows them to understand their place on the learning curve and stresses that through ongoing effort and persistence they will eventually achieve. Giving valuable feedback shows students how they can grow and fuels the idea that risks are opportunity! These questions above provide one such opportunity.
Kindest Regards
Jen Gulavin

To delve into the theme of Catholic Education Week, students have been exploring the meaning behind the John’s Gospel piece, “I have come that you may have life and have it to the full”.
I encourage you to take a look at the YouTube video/song, ‘Do Life Big’ and see if you can find the links to living a ‘full’ life.

ILLNESS
Dear Parents
If your child is unwell, has a fever or has been vomiting or have had gastroenteritis , they must stay at home until they are symptom free for 24 hours.
If they are not completely symptom free eg: runny nose, cough they wil need a medical certificate to confirm they have recovered and are not contagious in order to attend school.
Change of Clothing (Foundation – Junior students)
Accidents happen, from muddy puddles to tummy troubles; there may come a time when your child needs a change of clothes. Please ensure your child has a spare set of clothing in their bags at all times in the event they are needed.
